Weekend: 14th & 15th April
Saturday:
Spent the day with Fia, exploring parts of Manhattan's Lower West side. Fia lives right near China town (her apartment has a view of the Manhattan bridge, I'd like to pretend I'm not jealous but when she told me I turned a shade of green) It's a great location, but she says it's pretty rough at night so I guess every place has its pros and cons. So our day started with sitting drinking/eating smoothies/ice creams on Pier 17 in the most beautiful weather!
We spent the rest of the day wandering around Chinatown/Soho/Greenwich Village; though I get confused which I was in at which point to be honest. We wandered past some really cute shops and galleries with amazing window displays including Alexander Beradi's which had a bunny in the window display! How adorable:
I enjoyed wandering around POP! Gallery. Although I'm not usually a big fan of pop art, this had some really cool artwork in it. I especially liked URNEWYORK's mix of comic book graphics and graffiti:
After a lovely sunny, but over-crowded, stroll through Downtown Manhattan, we met up with Steph when she finished work and found Fiddlesticks in the West Village to go for dinner. It was a bar come pub come grill, so we had a couple of beers, made plans for Sunday and I ate the best nachos I've ever tasted:

Sunday:
We spent our Sunday in the Natural History Museum, which is the biggest museum in the world. And that isn't just me exaggerating, the tour guide on my magic mystery bus tours of the first few days told me. I seem to come out with random facts to Fia and Steph about things in New York and they both look at me as if to say "why on earth do you know that?!" and I have to take a minute to work out why exactly I do know it.
WARNING!
You are about to be bombarded with photos:
Fact reading concentration faces
Whilst in the museum, there was a Moth and Butterfly exhibition. For those of you that saw my design specialism project, you'll know my fascination with Moths (mostly) and Butterflies (to less extent but still find them incredible and beautiful) so you can imagine how amazing I found being in (essentially) a tent full of live ones.

After the museum, we wandered around the area before heading Downtown to an American Apparel discount warehouse that Steph had found. Uh oh, this place is amazing! I went a little mad, but still only spent the equivalent of 1 item in a normal AA store; such a great find.
My first proper weekend in New York was great, and finished off the first week well. I am so in love with this city it is insane, but my god it's an expensive place to live.
